Helping students build mathematical confidence and achieve target grades
About Me
Hello, I’m Amanda.
As a PGCE-qualified Maths teacher and former Data Scientist, I combine formal teaching skills with real-world examples to bring Maths to life. Having tutored Maths for 5 years, I specialise in supporting GCSE and Key Stage 3 students to build confidence, bridge learning gaps, and master exam techniques. I keep it simple by breaking key topics into logical, intuitive steps.
Whether your child needs a grade 4/5 pass or is aiming for higher grades to support A-Level, university or apprenticeship choices, I will help your child achieve their potential, tailoring each session to their needs. I place strong emphasis on past paper practice so students feel familiar with topics and questions on exam day. I create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, learning from mistakes, and stretching themselves to reach their full potential.
I am deeply committed to bridging the gender gap in STEM subjects. This passion led me to teach at an extra-curricular Code Club at Millais School in Horsham to inspire and encourage young women to pursue careers in computing (you can read more about this initiative in our feature in FE News).
My passion lies in education and demystifying Maths for others. Throughout my career, I’ve loved sharing mathematical knowledge across every level - whether that’s empowering students through my Maths tutoring, designing a bespoke Data Science course to up-skill colleagues in Pricing at RSA, delivering guest lectures on real-world Data Science to Mathematics students at Queen Mary University of London, or teaching Business Statistics and Machine Learning in the software industry.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Mathematical Statistics & Operational Research (University of Exeter).
PGCE Qualified (University of Greenwich) with Further Education Maths teaching experience.
5 Years of 1-to-1 GCSE & KS3 Maths tutoring.

Who I help and Levels Covered
Key Stage 3
Key Stage 3 forms the foundational learning that will support GCSE, so the focus is on building core confidence and arithmetic fluency across number, shape, graphs, algebra and statistics topics.
GCSE
For GCSE, I focus on closing knowledge gaps, strengthening problem solving, mastering exam questions, and boosting exam technique and confidence.
How my Tuition Works
Initial Contact: Fill out a short enquiry form detailing the student's current year group and goals.
Free Consultation: A brief 15-minute conversation to discuss learning needs and what times would work best for the student.
Initial Discovery Session: A short introductory session to identify strengths and key areas for development.
Planning: I will create an action plan of topics to cover.
Regular Weekly Sessions: Ongoing tuition with periodic feedback provided to parents.
Learning by Doing: Maths is a skill, so alongside demonstrating how to tackle different topics, I get students to practise questions and complete homework each week. This allows students to build knowledge, retain key concepts, and gain confidence.
Recommendations
“Amanda was a kind, caring and amazing tutor, she helped me so much with my coding. I was her student at Code Club where I was taught Python and HTML and being dyslexic I was worried I wouldn’t get it but she worked at my own pace and only moved on when I understood everything and I loved Code Club so much that it had inspired me to study games development at university. I would recommend Amanda to everyone!”
